Where to go

Spots graded like ski runs.

Every spot carries a difficulty grade — Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced — so you can judge what suits you and your car before you commit. Each one comes with the season it suits and GPS you can navigate to.

OffroadPal Discover tab listing UAE spots with Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level filters and the distance to each spot
No signal

No signal in the dunes? Your map doesn't care.

Download one region free before you leave. The map, your spots and your live position keep working with no signal at all — which is most of the desert.

Before you commit

Know what a spot asks of you before you drive it.

Each spot tells you the grade, what your car needs, and what to know before you go — while you can still change your mind.

Getting better

Progress you can actually see.

Claim spots, learn, bring people with you. Your tier moves as you go, so a year in you can see how far you have come.

Real data for a real place, the way you would see it before you drive out.

Difficulty here is indicative, not a measurement. Wind, heat and traffic change a dune between one weekend and the next.

Season
Open year round; in hot months drive early morning or late afternoon
Vehicle
4×4 with tyres aired down for sand; quad rentals operate at the base
In practice
Beginner-friendly around the base; the main face is genuinely steep

Who is OffroadPal for?

For anyone in the UAE who has sat in traffic in a Land Cruiser, a Patrol or a new Chinese 4x4 and thought "I should take this into the desert. But I don't know where to start."

New to it?

You get beginner-graded spots near you, a clear list of what to bring, and people to drive with. No WhatsApp group full of acronyms you have to decode first.

Already driving?

Proper offline maps, spot data from real UAE drives, and live convoy tracking. There's also a skill ladder that shows you how far you've come.

Get help fast if something goes wrong

Share your exact GPS location with your own contacts over WhatsApp or SMS — so it needs a phone signal. Plan for the places that have none. It's two taps away on every drive. You also get a link to the UAE's official rescue app.

Drive with people, not alone

Start a convoy and see your friends live on the map. Nobody to drive with yet? Take the beginner course. You drive your own car, with an instructor, on real dunes.

How does OffroadPal work?

You're three steps from your first desert drive:

  1. Download the app and open the map. See real off-road spots near you, sorted by skill level. Start with a green Beginner spot.
  2. Download your area for offline use, then drive out. Your map keeps working with zero signal. You can also add a friend to your convoy, so you're never out there alone.
  3. Claim the spot when you arrive. That's your first one on the board. You earn points and start a streak. Keep claiming spots to climb the tiers — Trailblazer, Overlander, and up.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an expensive 4x4 to start off-roading in the UAE?

You do need a capable 4x4 with low-range or a proper off-road mode, and you should air your tyres down for soft sand. You do not need a heavily modified vehicle. Every spot carries a difficulty grade and says what the drive asks of you — the vehicle, the convoy, the experience — so you can judge what suits you and your car before you commit.

Is OffroadPal free?

Yes. You can download OffroadPal and use the core features for free: the map, beginner spots near you, your first offline area, the SOS location-sharing button, convoy mode and the skill ladder. There is an optional Pro tier for drivers who want more. You never have to pay to take your first desert drive.

Does the app work without phone signal in the desert?

Yes, and that's the point. Download your area while you still have signal. After that, the map, your spots and your live position keep working completely offline. Signal disappears fast in the desert, so OffroadPal is built to keep showing you where you are when you have no signal at all.

Is OffroadPal only for the UAE?

Today every spot in OffroadPal is in the UAE — real local spots, desert-specific data, and seasons that match how people actually drive here. It is not a global hiking app with the UAE added on at the end.

I've never been off-road and I don't know anyone who does it. Can I still use it?

Yes. That's exactly who OffroadPal is built for. You get beginner-graded spots near you, a plain-English checklist of what to bring, and short Learn guides written for real beginners. If you want a proper start, our beginner desert driving course teaches you in your own car with an instructor. You don't have to figure it out alone.

Which phones does OffroadPal work on?

Both, today, as test builds: the iPhone version installs through TestFlight, and the Android version through the Google Play test — the buttons above walk you through each. The App Store release follows.
