Recovery
Getting stuck is normal. Not being able to get out on your own is the problem. This is the kit that gets you out.

12V air compressor
Air down for the sand, then air back up before you drive on the road again. Get one that refills a big 4×4 tyre fast. Slow compressors are misery at the dune exit.

Tyre deflator
Drops all four tyres to your sand pressure quickly and accurately. A twist-off gauge deflator is the simple, reliable pick.

Recovery boards
Slide them under a stuck tyre and drive out. You don't need a second vehicle. This is the most useful recovery item for a beginner. Get the sand-rated ones, not mud.

Kinetic recovery rope + shackles
For a snatch pull from another vehicle. Most UAE drivers run rated soft shackles rather than steel. Never use a flat tow strap for a kinetic snatch.

Folding shovel
Dig out around buried tyres and the chassis before you pull. Cheap, light, and worth it the one time you need it.
Tyres & pressure
The biggest desert upgrade is your tyres, not more horsepower.

All-terrain tyres
These make the biggest difference in soft sand. A good A/T in the right size does more for you than mods costing 5× more. Match the load rating and size to your vehicle.

Tyre pressure gauge
Know your exact PSI when you air down and when you air back up. A standalone gauge is more accurate than the dial built into a compressor.
Power
Keeps the phone, the fridge and the compressor running far from any socket.

Power station / jump starter
Runs the fridge and charges your devices away from mains power. It also jump-starts a flat battery. It does everything you need before you commit to a dual-battery install.

Folding solar panel
Tops the power station up on multi-day camps. Too much for a day trip. Worth it if you stay overnight.
Camping & fridges
The desert is the campsite. A little kit makes the night out much better. Once you camp with a 12V fridge, you don’t go back.

12V car fridge / freezer
Runs off the car or a power station, so there's no melting ice. Size it to your boot and to how many people you feed.

Tent
Ground tent or rooftop tent. For your first night out, a solid ground tent is far cheaper than a rooftop one. Upgrade once you know you'll keep doing it.

4×4 awning / shade
The midday desert sun is intense and there is rarely any natural shade. A car-side awning gives the group somewhere to sit and cool down.

More comfort than you'd expect for the money. Get ones that pack small and are easy to clean sand off.

For talking to your convoy where there's no mobile signal at all. A pair of decent handhelds keeps the group in touch on a dune run.

Keeps the map in view while you drive. Get a solid one that won't drop your phone over a bump.
