Pink Rock, Sharjah: Guide to the Drive

What is Pink Rock?

Pink Rock is an off-road spot in the Mleiha landscape of Sharjah. It sits in the same wider area as Fossil Rock and Camel Rock. It is graded Intermediate in the OffroadPal app.

Before anything else, deal with the name.

Why is the name confusing?

Because “Pink Rock” gets used for two different things:

If someone sends you directions to “Pink Rock”, ask which one they mean before you drive. The two sit in the same landscape, but they are not the same place.

How hard is it?

Intermediate. The grading is mostly about the area rather than one single obstacle. The surroundings have faster traffic and steeper sections than the beginner spots nearby. Speed plus blind crests is what makes this harder than a beginner drive.

How do drivers approach it?

Approach every crest slowly and square. Something faster may be coming up the other side. That is the specific hazard here.
Keep convoy spacing. Enough room to stop, never so much that you lose sight of the car ahead. See convoy etiquette.
Do not just follow someone else’s line. A line that worked for a lighter, more experienced car may not work for yours.

A note on old spot lists

Do not trust older “best of” blog lists. Access changes. Al Faya in Sharjah was closed to the public by Sharjah Police in November 2023 after a fatal off-roading accident. Do not assume a spot is open because a 2022 article says so. Check the current status before you commit a day to it.

The changes kept coming after that: in 2024 Sharjah fenced 34.2 km² of the neighbouring Mleiha area as a national park, and in July 2025 the Faya Palaeolandscape around Fossil Rock became UNESCO World Heritage, with access organised through the Mleiha visitor centre. Confirm which rock you are actually going to. Then drive every crest as if someone is coming the other way, because here they might be.

Blind crests with faster vehicles on the other side, and steeper sections that come up with little warning. Approach every crest slowly and square, keep spacing in your convoy, and do not follow a line just because someone else took it.
